Once biotechnology products are commercialized, they intersect with a broad range of players in the agricultural distribution channel. Members of CropLife Canada agree to work with stakeholders along the commodity, food and feed channels in order to minimize the impact of new technologies or products on international trade. Specific points include, but are not limited to, attempting to achieve synchronous authorizations in countries of trade, following best seed practices to ensure seed fit for purpose and minimize adventitious presence, providing reliable detection methods for identity verification and working with partner programs such as the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s and BIOTECanada’s Product Launch Stewardship Policy. CropLife Canada members actively support the efforts of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to develop an internationally recognized approach for low level presence of recombinant DNA plant material in food through the Codex ad hoc Task Force on Foods Derived from Biotechnology.
