Crop Production

Harvesting crops

The Coexistence Best Management Practices guide was developed to illustrate how different crop production systems are working effectively side-by-side in Canada - i.e. genetically engineered (GE), conventional and organic crop production. The best management practices are also intended to provide growers with a set of guidelines to maintain the viability of their chosen production system. Coexistence is not a health and safety concern, as the GE products involved have been rigorously tested and approved for food safety by Health Canada and environmental and feed safety by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). By incorporating the principles outlined and adopting the guidelines described in the Best Management Practices guide into their production practices, growers should be able to ensure the continued mutual sustainability of different production systems in Canada.

Herbicide Tolerance (HT)
A Best Management Practices Guide - CropLife Canada has produced a Best Management Practices guide that communicates effective strategies for managing HT volunteers in succeeding crops. This guide has been distributed to growers to ensure they have the most current and up to date information to ensure Good Agricultural Practices. Visit HT Crops and Control Options (MS Excel).

Commercial Status Database
The Commercial Status Database provides information on the status of genetically engineered products approved by Canadian regulatory agencies and their commercial status within the Canadian marketplace.
