CropLife Canada proud to participate in Calgary Stampede
July 2, 2009 – CALGARY, AB – CropLife Canada is proud to be at the Calgary Stampede this year to provide information about the ways in which modern plant sciences are offering solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
“Our industry provides important tools, like pesticides and plant biotechnology, that can help address pressing issues such as food scarcity and water shortages,” CropLife Canada president Dr. Lorne Hepworth said. “Our booth at the Stampede will provide kids and adults alike with easy, interactive ways to learn about modern plant science and the contribution it makes to improving the quality of life for people around the world.”
CropLife Canada’s booth is part of the Agrium Ag-tivity in the City Discovery Centre and will feature a wide range of activities including:
- Listen to the bugs! Come see the kinds of bugs that destroy entire crops and hear what they sound like doing it
- Learn how food has changed over the past 100 years – you won’t believe the difference!
- Find out what happens to empty pesticide containers after Canadian farmers turn them in for recycling
- Get your hands dirty by planting a seed to take home and see how fast (or how slow) it grows
In addition to all of the information that CropLife Canada’s booth offers to Stampede visitors, a wide range of teacher resources will be available for educators wishing to bring the Stampede experience to classroom. Information about the use of pesticides in urban centres will also be available.
“Plant science is an exciting field. We want to help people learn more about the many ways our products benefit Canadians and the Calgary Stampede is a great place to make that happen,” Hepworth said.
CropLife Canada is the trade association representing the manufacturers, developers and distributors of plant science innovations — pest control products and plant biotechnology — for use in agriculture, urban and public health settings.
